On July 29th, Rotary Club Bonaire spent time with Lulu Bernabela at her summer children’s camp Stichting Adonai. It was amazing how Lulu and her staff fill the days of all the children, both planting agriculture, cooking, playing, and learning.

Plants will be grown in the garden to provide low cost vegetables for low income families. Some plants will be used for holistic medicines while other plants are natural mosquito repellants. The burned spot of ground is ash which will be used to repel ants.

Keep up the great work Lulu!!

During December, 2009, Rotary Bonaire made several donations to charitable organizations or persons on Bonaire:

Maduro & Curiel's Bank, Rotary Club Bonaire and Akkermans Auto Supplies BV are proud to be sponsors of the new car for Mr. Saragoza, a well known local resident. He is, unfortunately, handicapped, but still is able (and loves) to drive his car. In 2003, Rotary Club Bonaire initiated the first "sponsored" car for Mr. Saragoza, and now six years later, it was time for a replacement. A new car was found at Akkerman's Toyota, and they converted it for Mr. Saragoza with hand gas and a hand brake. Pabien, Mr. Saragoza!

Foundation of the Blind & Deaf (Fundashon Kuido pa Bista i Oido: FKBO)

Objective: Integration of the blind & deaf in the community and the creation of favorable circumstances. Date of incorporation: December 27, 1983 The foundation consists of 7 boardmembers, all on voluntary basis, while some volunteers assist in the weekly activities with its 15 (regular) clients. A survey conducted in 2008, in all the neighborhoods of Bonaire, which indicated that 31% of the 538 participants have serious sight problems and require professional help (therapy & guidance). From earlier studies conducted 82 persons indicated having similar problems, for a total amount of 250 persons in urgent need of professional guidance. Based on the above findings the foundation started the process to offer professional care & guidance. This urgent need for professional help was also confirmed by its relation partners in The Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao, and Surinam. Negotiations are now taking place to obtain financing and the foundation trusts that in the short term they will be in a position to start offering therapy, personal training, and a guidance program, as well as guidance programs at schools.

Rotary Bonaire made a donation of FL 5,000 to the Bonaire Youth Outreach Foundation.

Rotary Bonaire made a donation of FL 1,000 to the Fundashon Mariadal.
