In the weeks to come you will be able to hear the sounds of
happy Dixieland Music on Bonaire. For those who like this kind
of music there will be a unique opportunity to listen or swing
to the well-known evergreens from 1920 till 1950.
On the invitation of Rotary Club of Bonaire,
who will celebrate on February 23 2005 the first 100 years
of Rotary International, the Dutch Dixies will give a number
of concerts. All revenues will be donated to the Rotary Club
of Bonaire, for sponsoring of special projects directed at
the youth of Bonaire.
This
special Dixieland Project originated two years ago when the
band’s clarinet player Jan Vervoort
met the American banjo player Gil O’Gawa. Together they
performed in a guest performance in the Jazz club BonJazz.
Encouraged by the enormous success Jan looked for ways to continue
it. Last year they performed again as “Transatlantic
Dixieland Duo” on various locations. Again the auditorium
was enthusiastic. Then Jan worked at the idea to play and perform
during one whole week with a complete Dixieland Orchestra.
Thanks to the 100 year Celebration of Rotary International
we will enjoy this unique project on Bonaire.
The
Dutch Dixies are six skilled musicians, all well recognized
in their genre. The Orchestra is always a welcome guest on
various Jazz Festivals in Europe. This makes it even more
special, now we are able to enjoy this event. As a special
guest of honor Gil O’Gawa will be present
with his own special style and tone. This will give an extra
dimension to this special.
