NEW
BOARD OF BONAIRE ROTARY CLUB TAKES OFFICE
BONAIRE, N.A. -- July 24, 2000 -- The Bonaire Rotary Club
today announced that its new Board for the 2000/2001 year has
taken office. A turnover meeting, held at the Harbour Village
Resort recently, served as the official venue for this action.
The new Board of the Bonaire Rotary Club consists of Richard
Dove, co-owner of the Beefeater Restaurant as President, Ruud
Vermulen of Antillen Wine N.V. as Vice-President, Jan Gielen
of Cargill as Treasurer, and Henk Ram of Club Nautico Pier
as Secretary. President-elect (the President scheduled for
the 2001/2002 year) is Larry Gerharts of Bonaire Air Services.
Outgoing Bonaire Rotary Club Bonaire President, Yke Faber of
INPO, will take the role of Sergeant of Arms for the Club during
the next year. Mr. Faber also became a Paul Harris Fellow in
Rotary International during the turnover proceedings.
The crowning achievement of the Bonaire Rotary Club during
the past year has been the construction and dedication of a
special green house for the Pasa Dia Foundation in Rincon.
The green house will allow the disadvantaged and handicapped
members of Pasa Dia grow their own fruits and vegetables, which
in turn will be used for both personal consumption and sale
to continue to raise funds for this worthwhile organization.
The Bonaire Rotary Club also helped raise funds last fall to
aid local fishermen who lost their vessels during a particularly
bad storm and wind reversal.
"While the previous year showed again that the Bonaire
Rotary Club is certainly fulfilling its role as a community
service organization, we cannot rest on our past successes.
Indeed, we are already working on a number of project ideas
for the coming year to further aid the community." stated
Bonaire Rotary President Richard Dove at the first meeting
he presided over.
The Bonaire Rotary Club consists of 24 members representing
the Bonairean business community, and has meetings every Wednesday
at 12:15pm at Rendez-Vous Restaurant. For more information,
